Veganism and Jainism

Veganism, which seeks to eliminate harm to all living beings, is deeply rooted in Ahimsa (non-violence) and is simply its application. Jain teachings emphasize non-harm in all- action, thought and speech, leading many Jains to adopt a plant-based diet and avoid the use of animals in any form. One also naturally eliminates dairy-based vigai and other practices that involve violence.

By rejecting animal products and industries that exploit or harm animals, veganism actively practices ahimsa. Conversely, not being vegan entangles us in hinsa (violence), as the consumption and use of animal-derived products support industries built on the suffering and exploitation of countless living beings. Jain principles encourage a lifestyle that avoids even the smallest harm, and veganism is a natural, essential expression of that commitment in today's world.
